  • Pink Tux to the Prom

Yes, it's what's currently playing. I just had to share that. (I also have my Bluetooth earphones on (around my neck) and turned all the way up. You can actually hear it quite well. )

Yeah, I'm not really sure why I'm updating. I just got bored on the Internet (nothing new really) and decided this would be a bit worth my while. And yeah.... That's pretty much it.

Life interesting (as always), but at the same time amazing, God is (as always) AWESOME! and I'm just plain excited. But I say that a lot, so it probably didn't actually need repeating at this time. But oh well.

Umm... Not much going on this week. Yesterday I helped to get the gym at church totally cleared out (except for one chunk of the stage and the chairs/tables for AWANA) so it can have the AWANA lines painted on the floor and then be waxed on Thursday. It will be sa-weet. But on that note: We'll actually have morning service up in the sanctuary for the first time in a long while. (Little note: We have been averaging around 185 to 190ish a Sunday, and that sanctuary can seat around 200 comfortably. The record is just shy of 300, but that was with extra chairs in the isle and people standing and yeah. lol I'm looking forward to it though. Nothing like close fellowship.

I think I'm best off just stopping now. I'm just rambling. So yeah: Have a great day alls!

  • Twenty-five items of a semi-random but mostly odd arrangement

Yeah... I had to mix up the title. And no: I'm not going to tag folks in this. Just because. It's how I'm going to roll. But do enjoy the list, as it'll probably take me a little while to compile. (Hey that rhymes...)

    1. I notice when things rhyme occasionally... Like just then. lol

    2. My sleep schedule has been fully thrown-off since I was laid off back in December. Something I really ought to fix here before too much longer... (Although on the bright side: I have been getting better/longer sleep at night. )

    3. Being an optimist is what I do, and is kinda seen there in point two. (The whole bright side bit. )

    4. I am the Official Ugly Friend, the Official Weird Friend, and a slew of other things that most folks would see as put-downs. (Although in all truth and reality I'm totally fine with myself. lol And the ugly/weird friend status comes out of that. )

    5. You can reach me at [almost] any time of the day, provided you have access to a computer or phone. And there are about 7 different ways to get a hold of me as well.

    6. "Hello. My name is John and I'm a campaholic." (But seriously though. If there ever arises a need to have an A/V Techie or nerd on site all the time...)

    7. Red lights are a pet peeve of mine, although it's getting better. (The reason: They are a waste of gas. It takes a lot to get the Suburban rolling again..)

    8. I drive 55 on the highway for that same reason: Much better gas mileage. (That and it really helps to keep my calm for the day. Weird, I know, but hey: See point number four.)

    9. I am kind of a (hopefully-not-fully) hopeless romantic of sorts. lol (I guess that's what happens when you are single for all but two months of your life and you have lots of time to think on such things..)

    10. One of the bigger reasons for not wanting to get rid of the Suburban is actually because of the full bench seat in the front. (See the point just prior if you don't get why...)

    11. Contrary to popular opinion, I am not actually Abe Lincoln, nor do I intend to run for President. Any similarities are purely coincidental, and proof that God has an awesome sense of humor. (After all, He created me, didn't He?)

    12. Even though I cannot fluently play any instrument, I often play the air drums while sitting in my room, listening to tunes. (Which, for the record, is almost always.)

    13. I am [slowly] trying to learn the acoustic guitar. The jury is still out on how long this will take..

    14. I have never taken an IQ test, and probably never will, if nothing more than to always be able to say "I have no clue" and then promptly say that I'm not smart. (Mainly 'cause I ain't. Really.)

    15. I'm actually named from the same "scheme" as my Dad and uncles on Dad's side: Dad is Matthew, then I have an Uncle Mark, Uncle Aaron Luke (We don't call him Aaron Luke, but Luke is the important part here), and then I am John. (Actually Johnathon, which is an odd spelling in and of itself apparently.)

    16. Uncle Mark wanted Mom to name my bro Acts and then he would name his son Romans, but for some odd reason Mom said know.. (Still dunno why there...) So instead we have Mike (Michael) and Izak.

    17. I plan on resuming the name "scheme" (or however you'd phrase that) with my sons, using the author of the books. That way everything is still accurate, and we'd pick back up with Luke, then Paul, Paul, Paul, Paul....

    18. I don't know how many kids I'll actually have; That's kinda up to God and my wife-to-be (still not sure who she is...), but the Suburban does have nine seat belts... And even the newer ones have seven or eight. (So subtract two for my wife-yet-to-be and I... lol You get the idear.)

    19. Someday I hope to have a house that has a big enough open area to routinely have people over and be able to open it up to whatever ministry group may need it at any time. (Think space enough for YACs with room to spare.. )

    20. I up and daydream a lot.. often times during any little bit of free time I have during the day, even just when it's walking down the hall. (See points 3, 9, 10 and 18 if you want to know what about. I probably will never say more than that..)

    21. There are two whiteboards and one cork board in my room; The largest of the three (a whiteboard) I just used to write down what bullet points to mention for the point just prior.

    22. I have way too many songs that I like a lot to even come close to listing, and ditto for bands. Although I guess if I have to pick a genre it's Christian Rock or Christian Punk Rock. (Think Stellar Kart, Hawk Nelson, Relient K, Krystal Meyers, Sanctus Real, 33Miles, FM Static, Kutless, The Afters, Switchfoot, Addison Road etc. Oh! And any song we sing at camp. )

    23. My music library is currently over 2903 songs. [Almost] all of which is Christian music. (George Winston is an example of some that isn't, but that is just piano.)

    24. I wear slippers all the time in the winter months. (Well, if my shoes aren't on that is.)

    25. Life is awesome, God is greatly AMAZING, and I'm excited for what He has in store.

  • CHRISTmas Day: 2008

    *ZZZZzzzz*
    *ZZZZzzzz*
    *ZZZZzz--* Huh? *Dazed*

Oh yeah. It's only 7:30. (And I'm feeling that urge to fall asleep as I sit in my chair.. I might have even just dropped out for a sec before I started writing this, but I'm not really sure.)

*Gah!* I just cannot keep awake/alert. I just grabbed the last Fuel2O in an attempt to regain my concentration. (That's basically water that has 120mg of caffeine per serving (16 oz) for those who don't know. )

Anyways, I pretty much just ate too much at Grandparents Andree's, and then got comfy and so my body was like "Yay! Nap time!", despite my telling it "No." To put it simply at least.

Anywhos, today has been a great day. I got up at 8:30 (Well, back up: I was up until 2:30 doing nerdy stuff, but that doesn't count as "today") and was actually the last one up for presents. (Quick a shocker really. Even Dad was ready before me. lol) Nothing too different from there. Abby read the CHRISTmas story and then we started in with the gifts. Stockings first, of course. And I know all of these details are boring you all to tears, so without further ado, I give you The List (Like the effects there? Anyways, here we go)

  • Snow Storms

They are pretty sweet, and I have no biff with them. That is, until they block me in from going to Church on Sunday... Hopefully I'll still be able to make it to the evening service and the Gathering tonight. We'll have to see.

So yeah. I'm kinda stuck at home right now. I'm taking the moment to stare at my Mac's background, which is that picture of Ao-Wa-Kiya's lake front on Stony Lake during last summer. (2007) It's warm and helps make up for the coldness that currently occupies my room. Although the snow does come half-way up my window, which, I must admit, is pretty sweet.

So I've been working on moving my e-mail and stuffs over to Google Apps from my personal server, mainly for kicks and giggles. I already moved all the Church e-mail and such over, so now everything is on one universal platform. I'll probably just rebuild my server pretty soon here (It's so low on disk space that it can't even send an e-mail) and then it'll be more apt for hosting random peoples' sites and such. And yes, it's free. Inquire if you desire a spot to host your jazz.

I went "sledding" a couple times yesterday. (Was actually more bike skiing, but still.) Micah and I went up to Ao-Wa-Kiya (which, might I add, is very different in the winter) and had some fun on the hills up there. For those who are familiar with camp: You know that hill you have to hike back _up_ from the zip line? You do? Ok, now picture somebody on a bike (that has skis instead of tires) going DOWN it. Yeah. It was that awesome, and got so fast that we stopped. (Hitting a tree would have killed, possibly literally.) Then after we got back I went to Charlie's Dump in Jenison to bike ski some more. Managed to land on my left after a jump a couple times; Now I've got a nice sore spot on my thigh too. Totally worth it, and I know you were all just dying to know that.

Oh, and as fair warning; If you are having trouble heading down the trail that goes by the paintball, zip line, archery range and such in Pastor Mike's golf cart in the snow, then it might be a good idea to back out while you still can. Yeah... Don't worry, we got back out; Thankfully his cart has a nice winch on it. With a very long cable. But still... Think it over, and just walk. It's faster in the end.

Anyways, I think I'll just top typing now before this becomes much more of a novel. After all, I could go into detail on my past few week's adventures (or however long it's been since my last post), but I guess I'll spare ya'll of the details. Have a great week alls, and if I don't update before then, have a Merry CHIRSTmas!!

Tuesday, 18 November 2008

  • Not quite two months..

.. since my last update that is. lol (Kinda hard to believe it was that along ago... and also that we are already over half-way through November.... This month has flown by.)

So there is a ton to update on, but yet not a lot that I'll actually pass on as an update. Probably not the greatest of plans (seeing as there probably won't be many, if any, people who will read this besides myself), but we'll see.

Hmmm...so yeah. I'm pretty much in that stage of life (yet again) where I'm just looking at what has gone on in the past couple weeks and am just waiting (and really excited) for what God is doing in it all. To try and make that simpler.. umm.. yeah. Basically life is really looking up right now (and for those who know what I'd mean by that then you'll get my drift to a little more specific degree), and I'm excited for what's to come. Yeah.

And now that I've made this fully cryptic I could just cut it off and leave myself wondering what in the world was going on in my life at this point when I go back in read it in a couple years, and on second thought I actually will do that second part. lol (But I will ramble on a little more. )

So it's Tuesday afternoon. I just finished watching this week's Chuck (Wowow to that by the way; Won't make much sense if you haven't followed the series though) and now I'm just doing something semi-constructive until my class at 6 in that room right over there *points to his right and up a floor*. Dinner is first though.. Not sure what I'll do for that yet though. Probably Arby's as usual.

Last night after work was pretty cool: I had to brush a couple inches of snow off the 'burban. Ran into a nice bit of white-out on 72nd heading towards Allendale too, but once I got by the high school there it was all clear... and green.. *sadface*. Kinda funny having a couple inches (I heard 8 last night) on the ground at the lake shore, and here at Davenport (in Caledonia) it's all lush green grass. I can't find any snow on the ground anywhere actually... 'tis sad. lol

Well anyways, I'll just leave this update at that; Rather pointless and vauge as always. I will pass on an update with more clarity when it is deemed worthy: When that happens only God knows. (Really. It'll be when His plan smacks me in the face and I go "Ohhhhh!! I get it! ". And the "when" (and "what") there is what I'm clueless too. )

    But yeah. That's about it.

Monday, 22 September 2008

  • Yay fer updates!

So I'm pretty sure I'm just going to give up on trying to write that post I've been talking about it. It's just plain not going to happen, or at least sure isn't seeming like it.

But yeah. Life is great and God is indefinably better. And I'm just waiting for whatever it is he has in store for me.

And $5.59 for 5 feet of 3/4 inch Velcro seems a little steep to me. Not sure about you, but that's gotta be a bit on the just-for-price's-sake line. But oh well. At least the 100 pack of Meijer push-pins was only 99 cents. Much more reasonable in my mind. (Perhaps it's because I got the industrial-strength Velcro though... lol Oh well.)

What's all this for you ask? Well, I recently bought myself a corkboard and a whiteboard (beyond the whiteboard I got from Grandma Ambrose) and I need to hang them. The two I bought are light enough for Velcro, but the one from Grandma needs actual screws and stuff, so it'll be waiting a couple days.

I also bought dry erase markers, an eraser and the new After's CD (Never Going Back to Ok), which is pretty much the rockage. (Track 6 especially.)

Hmm.. So yeah. Right now I'm just typing this.. Waiting for a response on IM from someone who probably wouldn't be totally enthralled if I said her name in this post, and debating the worthiness of attempting to recall my calculator from my bro. Fun stuff, right?

I think that's about all I'll babble on about for tonight. I could go for a while (My brain is ready to do so), but for your sakes (and the sake of my keyboard), I won't.

    Have fun alls!
Ok, so I was wrong. Renae doesn't mind if I mention her name in a post.

So yup. I was waiting for Renae to reply in IM.

Monday, 15 September 2008

  • Perhaps...

... I should just post a bunch of my IM logs up to tell my story from the summer. That'd be a whole ton easier than trying to write it all out fresh.

But then and again that's kinda against the point, isn't it? *sigh* Don't worry. I'll figure out some time to sit and tell you all of the happenings and thinkings of me from this past summer. Although probably not as deep as I've shared with some others of you alls.

Saturday, 13 September 2008

  • So, before I start web coding for the day...

...I thought I'd share a few tid-bits and attempt to keep ya'lls up to date on the happenings in the life of John. (Well... kinda.)

So the song that just came on is "Hello" by Hawk Nelson, and if you don't know what that song is just go ahead and YouTube it. But anyways, moving on. (Good song by the way.)

I had decided when I read my devos this morning that they were worth the time taken to type them up and share them, and so, without further ado, here is my morning devos. (They are from The Ransomed Heart by John Eldredge, page 274.)
What is it that God wants from you?

He wants the same thing that you want. He wants to be loved. He wants to be known as only lovers can know each other. He wants intimacy with you. Yes, yes, he wants your obedience but only when it flows out of a heart filled with love for him. "Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me" (John 14:21). Following hard after Jesus is the heart's natural response when it has been captured and fallen deeply in love with Him.

Reading George MacDonald several years ago, I cam across an astounding thought. You've probably heard that there is in every human heart a place that God alone can fill. (Lord knows we've tried to fill it with everything else, to our utter dismay.) But what the old poet was saying was that there is also in God's heard a place that you alone can fill. "It follows that there is also a chamber in God himself, into which none can enter but one, the individual." You. You are meant to fill a place in the heart of God no one else and nothing else can fill. Woah. He longs for you.

God wants to live this life together with you, to share in your days and decisions, your desires and disappointments. He wants intimacy with you in the midst of the madness and mundane, the meetings and memos, the laundry and lists, the carpools and conversations and projects and pain. He wants to pour his love into your heart and he longs to have you poor yours into his. He wants your deep heart; that center place within that is the truest you. He is not interested in intimacy with the person you think you are supposed to be. He wants intimacy with the real you.
Yeah. Pretty awesome thought, right? I sure think it is.

I might give my full update yet today. We'll see what becomes of that idea though.

  • It's been too long

Wow has it been a long time since I last updated... And I really should actually update, shouldn't I?

And I would be updating, except I want to think around the events of today (reference the Facebook if you want to make heads or tails of that) before I do.... Otherwise I'll go off before I've gotten really mellow over it all. (And trust me: The mellow is coming.)

So yeah. God is great, life is ... interesting, and I'm kinda depressed. But oh well. (Oh, and if that's not hint enough: Please pray that I keep my mind in the right spot during all this.. It's far too easy for me to go off and be pondering things that I don't need to, so thanks in advance for praying.)

That'll be all for now folks. Check back later when I start rambling about the summer and you can read yet another novel.
